A charming French portrayal of a fava bean (Vicia faba) springs to life with these botanical earrings. The original illustration by the Master of Claude de France is found in a spectacular book of flower studies (ca. 1510–1515) , which belongs to what’s been called “the last flowering” of northern European manuscript illumination in the medieval tradition. Each species in this magnificent manuscript was immortalized in witness to its beauty, and can be found in the gardens at The Met Cloisters, where the book is housed.
